Production week 4
Hi everyone, in this devlog we will tell you all about the stuff we did in the 4th production week of our game "Monkey Bananza".
This week we created the base of the teleporters in the game. The mesh is not yet implemented.
We also created the main menu, with control schemes and a pause menu. However, these are not finished yet, we still need to add graphics.
The behaviour of the point system has also been changed for the runners. Instead of getting points for destroying an object they will now get points when damaging the object. This way the runners can gain a lot of points without actually having to destroy an object.
The most important catcher animations are now done. We have different animations for different directions of catching and we also created a taunt animation for the runners.
This week, we also added a jump for the catcher, that will make it easier for him to catch the monkeys. It works as a leap, with a 2 second cooldown.
We also have the first sounds in the game. We added a nice background music for the game itself, and some sound effects.
The sweep of the net of the catcher (that will get the animations next week), the smashing of an object and the teleporters have a sound now.
Visually, the game has improved quite a bit. We added a gas effect showing the reason why the catcher needs oxygen to survive and did some basic color grading to boost the visual appearance of our game.
Next week we want to implement the catcher animations into the game.
This is how the level looks until now. The tiles was a challenge, because we wanted them to be something more than just plain squares, but making them too complicated would be too distracting. The added windows will allow the players to look outside of the level as well, where next week will be added a city with the lab being on top of it. We realized that we are missing some color, so adding those 'futuristic' plants helped with adding a pinch of color and making it more appealing.
